If you are looking for an opportunity to learn how to relax your mind and release stress, you are sure to appreciate Jessica's approach to teaching yoga. The tools she offers in class are designed to help you create new habits of calm despite circumstance, as well as ease and comfort in the body to help support your daily activities and healing journey.
You will practice gentle poses in a style known as Yin Yoga, which specifically targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine, as well as the energetic channels of the meridians, nerve and blood system. We practice each pose in stillness for at least 3-5 minutes. The prolonged time in each pose gives muscles ample time to relax so that we can focus on stretching and strengthening ligaments, bones and joints, which are not exercised very much in a more active style of yoga. Sometimes a Restorative Yoga pose or two will be added to aid in turning off the "fight or flight" response and bring you back to your natural state of "rest and digest". There is also a meditative component to this class, with an approach to mindful awareness. Previous yoga experience is not necessary to enjoy this class.
Please bring a yoga mat and dress in layers. Socks are fine too. You may also choose to bring a blanket and any other props for your comfort, but they are not necessary.
